Serbian Dolls

This is an 8 inch female doll wearing a costume from Sumadija, Serbia. She is in mint condition and came in a box with the base, insert and lid all intact. The plastic remained on the insert with some slight tearing.* The lid bears the logo of Jugoexport and the base and insert have a paper label indicating the doll was hand made in Yugoslavia and wears a costume worn in 'Belgrad's environment' which is a term I have never seen before on any labels or tags. There is a sticker on the back of the base with 2/58 and 1.50 printed. The Macedonian doll pictured below came in the same type of box with the same sticker.

She wears a headscarf which is not so common in the range of Serbian dolls offered by Narodna Radinost and has a red flower in her hair made of fabric, not of embroidery thread which is more typical.

Her skirt is in the upturned butterfly or fan style and is made of a pleated material. The material is a vibrant red which is uncommon.

Her opanki are made of leather in a green colour as opposed to the more often found tan colour.
