Bosnian and Herzegovinian dolls

This brightly coloured pair of  dolls are wearing a type of folk costume from Bosnia and Herzegovina. They have lovely woven aprons with fringing and heavy woollen vests with red, green and yellow braid for trim. The shoes are leather and the head scarf each wears is trimmed with cotton lace and pinned to a small red cap. I think their nicest feature is the cross stitching on the sleeves. The embroidery from this region of the world is particularly fine, often using geometric patterns in red, black and yellow. For those interested in the topic the DMC Library Yugoslavian Embroideries 1965 is a great resource.
