Croatian dolls

This 8 inch stockinette over wire armature doll is wearing a costume from Vrlika, Dalmatia. His face is particularly well done with the bright blue hand stitched eyes and red lips and moustache all the male Narodna Radinost dolls have. He wears a white cotton shirt and red woollen felt vest with a yellow circular design embroidered on it. The blue cape is edged in red with a matching red felt hat.  His blue cotton trousers are tucked into white socks over which are worn woollen gaiters. These gaiters are often heavily decorated in the real version but are here simply trimmed with red and yellow stitching. His shoes are white leather with thread binding. This not a commonly found doll in the range. There is a slightly different version worn by male dolls from Montenegro made in the 1970s which is more readily available.
