Slovenian Dolls

This is a 12" female doll wearing a folk costume from the Gorenjska region of Slovenia. The first of the postcards  below depicts this region which is the only one from Slovenia reproduced in the Narodna Radinost range that I collect.

Pink, green and white are the colour scheme with a silk taffeta material being used. Some simple green embroidered flowers adorn her pink scarf which is teamed with a pink apron worn over a full dark green silk skirt. A green ribbon around her waist stands in for the metal belt worn in the actual costume.

The hat sadly has flattened in storage but it is a full white cap trimmed with a headband featuring gold ric rac and finished with a green ribbon.

I have added some additional pictures of Slovenian folk costume to illustrate the variations in head dress and accessories. I have noted before I feel the Slovenian dolls fall a little short in really reflecting the richness of Slovenian folk costume and so the wonderful drawings of Vladimir Kirin will have to make up the deficit.
